Oracle Download and Configuration and Connection Guide

Oracle makes available client software that you can run to access an Oracle database. You may follow the following steps to install the Oracle 11g client software.

To install Oracle 11g Client:

To select the correct download for your system you will need to know whether you have a 64-bit or 32-bit operating system.

For Windows 7 you can right-click on computer and select Properties. In the window that opens look under system for System type which will be either 32-bit or 64-bit.

For Windows 7 (x64) you would need to use the 11g Release 2 Client at: http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/database/enterprise-edition/downloads/112010-win64soHYPERLINK "http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/database/enterprise-edition/downloads/112010-win64soft-094461.html"fHYPERLINK "http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/database/enterprise-edition/downloads/112010-win64soft-094461.html"t-094461.html

For Windows 7(x32) or Windows Vista you would use (note: cut the link and paste it into your browser): http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/database/enterprise-edition/downloads/112010-win32soft-098987.html

On the above page you need to Accept License Agreement before you attempt to download. You are also prompted to enter your username and password as you attempt to download. You need to create an account if you don’t have one.

Download: Oracle Database 11g Release 2 Client (11.2.0.1.0) using the Save As option so you will know where it is. Right click the downloaded zip file and choose Extract All.

After extracting you should have a "Client" folder. It contains a setup.exe program that you run to do the installation. The default selections should work, except that you should choose Administrator on the initial screen. After installing the software, you will need to configure a “local net service name”. Follow the sequence as follows start-> all program->Oracle - OraClient11g_home1->Configuration and Migration Tools-> Net Configuration Assistant to start the Net Configuration Assistant.

If you have other windows open, this program may open in a window that is behind them. Configure it as follows:

· Select Local Net Service Name Configuration and click Next

· Click Add then click Next

· For Service Name enter INFO then click Next

· TCP then click Next

· For Host Name enter Cody.AUM.edu then click Next

· Select Yes then click Next

· You should get a message that says: Connecting...ORA-01017: invalid username/password; logon denied This means that you successfully contacted the database. You are set up properly. If you did not get this message, something is wrong. Delete the Net Service Name and try again.

· Click Next then for Net Service Name enter INFO then next, next, next then FINISH. You are now ready to login with your own username and password.
