The Darkness
The movie titled “The Hunger Games” by Suzanne Collins is an amazing story of a girl “Katniss” who sacrificed for her sister life. Also it is illustrates the experiences in the world today from the most entertaining moments to the most annoying and tragic. For the girl’s love for her sister, she is ready and willing to sacrifice herself to save her sister. This movie talk of the big hero and this makes the movie more popular in the sense that most people can see it without comprehending (Collins, 2008). The presents a woman who is ruthless because the woman is certainly not heartless, but indicates a tribute to death. The movie presents to the teenager audience who has all the qualities that a person may deserve. She is loyal, brave, determined, strong and has the strength required. The Hunger Games movie illustrates too many issues such as: love, sacrificing, poverty, violence and romance, but poverty and violence get my attention. How poverty affects people’s lives whether in positive or negative way and how it leads to violence and what is the connection between them.
Poverty is an awful and an unaccepted reality for poor people, nobody can feel it except them because they live the hardest life and they live in dystopia just because the poverty. Nevertheless, they suffered hell just because they are poor and there is a really unfair government controls them. Exactly like people who live in countries that they are strictly controlled by the government and the nation have nothing to ask the government for. Egypt is an example of a poverty country because of their bad government. As mentioned in Egypt daily news: “By 2010, amid ongoing global success in poverty reduction, the percentage of poor Egyptians actually increased to 25% of the population according to Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics” (Boutros). What Iris Boutros is trying to say that the poverty rate in Egypt increased to 25% specifically in 2010 because of the new government that has been changed in 2010 after the election. She also states that: “Poverty is not simply the absence of money but rather a state of living with lower levels of well-being. The state of health, level of education, and living safely without worrying about their kids future are all also valid concepts to assess a person’s well-being” (Boutros). In other words, people in poor society like Egypt they do not just need money to live but they need other things as Iris mentioned to live a peaceful normal life free of suffering. In fact, people in the hunger games movie who lives in the twelve districts asks for the same; they just want to live a peaceful normal life. In other hand, sometimes poverty affect people in positively by enhancing their hunting skills and make them brave and patience so they can survive. And most time poverty affects people in a really negative way such as: it teaches them to use violence in order to get what they want and make them aggressive.
Violence it is a really bad behavior people can act with, because by violence other people get hurt and it is causes damages. Nowadays, people seeking for peace, and violence is the opposite action of peace and reassurance. In fact, violence is unaccepted action in all societies but in the “The Hunger Games” it is normal because if you are not brave enough you will not survive and win the game. Furthermore, people who live in the twelve districts on the “The Hunger Games” movie; they should use violence to live. In fact, the families sacrifice their children to be in a stupid game for a living; the game teach them how they could be savages and hostiles also they gives them lessons about fighting and killing. After that, they put all teenagers who was chosen by the government in one scary place like forest and let them fight and kill each other and only one winner who survive, but it is possible that the same person who survive be chosen next time so, it is something that they have to be scary of for their whole life. The action of violence like killing it strictly forbidden in Islamic religion as mentioned in the holy Quran: “Do not kill the soul which Allah has forbidden except by right” (Alanam part 5). However, nobody has the right to kill others even the government accepts if the person itself kill innocence soul then the government has the right to kill him. Comparing with the Hunger Games, teenagers get killed by other teenagers in the same game just because the government asks them to fight and kills each other in order to provide them with food and this is totally prohibited in Quran.
As I mentioned before the poverty most time affect people negatively it is make them act aggressively. In fact, poverty leads to violence; obviously poor people are uneducated and they always out of money so they use violence to get what they want. The previous sentence demonstrates that they don’t have to be bad people or they have bad personalities, but they are so poor and they do not have any sources to keep them alive, so they only have this one aggressive way to survive. Just like in the movie that I recently watched, Captain Philips when the Somalian gang attacked the American huge ship to get money. In addition, in the movie you will see lots of violence sceneries and they also kidnap the ship’s captain and they were only six persons, they did all these bad things just because they are too poor and they do not have any other choices because they already from poor country. That is why I can tell that not all gangsters are bad but maybe because their faiths force them to do so. This shows the relationship between poverty and violence; poverty leads to violence.
