FSHN/KLS 480 – Metabolic Assignment – 25 points

Do Your Own Work; this is NOT a Group Project!

Instructions:

I. Use the information provided to complete your calculations: (Jay had a VO2 max value of 44.5 ml/kg/min, and his weight was 71.8 kg.)

Perform the requested calculations for each data collection period. You are supplied with 3 sets of data, 2 minutes each, from when he rested, walked, and jogged.

II. Prepare a table that includes all relevant data (Note this is accomplished using a spreadsheet, such as Excel). Set up your table with the following columns:

Time, VO2 L/M, RER, Kcal Constant, Kcals/min, % Kcals CHO, % Kcals FAT, Kcals CHO,

Kcals FAT, grams CHO/L O2 constant, grams FAT/L O2 constant, grams CHO, grams FAT,

VO2 ml/kg/min, and %VO2max

III. Using computer graphics (graphs prepared using other methods will be returned to you to be redone without being graded) , prepare line graphs for the data.

Graph #1. x axis = time, y axis = %, and graph %CHO and %FAT

Graph #2. x axis = time, y axis = grams, and graph grams CHO and grams FAT

IV. Write a paragraph explaining why you feel the data came out like they did. I will not give credit for hand written paragraphs, they must be typed.

DATA:

Time VO2 RER

2 .460 0.91

2.5 .441 096

3 .405 091

3.5 .438 0.88 resting note: Jay reported eating a power bar ~45 minutes prior to his test

7.5 1.143 0.80

8 1.126 0.84

8.5 1.069 0.81

9 1.147 0.76 walking

12.5 2.165 0.98

13 2.130 0.95

13.5 2.282 0.96 jogging

Note: VO2 reported in l/min, RER = respiratory exchange ratio

Example: These data are from a previous class.
