Week 3 Assignment – “Data 2: Survey”

Directions

Assignment 3 – “Data 2: Survey” exercise (40 points or 4% of your overall grade, due Sunday at midnight CST of Week 3).

Read the instructions (below) and participate in the survey by filling out the distributed survey form (available in the

“Doc Sharing” section of the course shell.

Then administer that survey to four (4) other people and discuss it with them afterward.

Write up a summary of your findings and experience. What are the results you found? Were there similarities

or differences between the results or were the results homogenous? Can you explain why the results may be or

may not be similar? What challenges did you encounter? What would you do different next time if you were to

repeat this exercise?

You will post your “Reflection” essay in the forum provided then participate in a conversation with the other

students and compare your experiences. Post your “Reflection” as early as possible in the week to allow time for a

good discussion to develop.

A Participate in the survey.

C Record these data and submit them to your instructor in the spreadsheet provided.

D Write up a “Reflection” on your findings and experience (400 to 500 words).

E Post your write-up in the “Reflections” discussion thread and respond to at least 2 other student postings

Survey Directions: The survey continues our study of prejudice and discrimination using a second methodology. It asks questions about participants’ demographic characteristics, experiences and attitudes. Your instructor will distribute a survey for you to take. Complete this survey and then administer it to four other people. Record those data in the spreadsheet provided (DA2data.xls) by entering the number associated with each answer into the proper spreadsheet cell (one row per survey). Enter a 9 for any skipped or illegible answers. Submit your spreadsheet to your instructor so that your data may be included in the complete data set. This must be completed on time. All necessary files, including the survey form and the spreadsheet for data entry are uploaded into the “Doc Sharing” section of this course’s online shell. Write up your summary and reflection of the survey (400 to 500 words) and post it in the “Reflections” thread. Remember that this is not an analysis of these data (that will come in Week 8), it is a reflection on the methodology and your experience both as a participant and an administrator. Reply substantively and critically to at least two other students.
