Project 1 (45 points)
Write your answers to the following questions in Short Essay Format. Be sure to include reasons and facts as required to support your answers. Cite examples.
Project format: Each page must be typed in 12-point Times New Roman or similar typeface, 1” margins on all sides, double-spaced. Please remember to correct misspellings and grammatical errors. On the first page, in the upper right hand corner, place your name, class title (TECH 454 - Environmental Engineering), and the date. Also, on the first page, below the name block, place the title, “Project 1”.
Number your answers for each question.
1. (15 points) Green engineering has proven to be an obstacle to many industries. The reason is their misunderstanding of the potential benefits if properly implemented. In your opinion, would you classify green engineering as a quick fix program or a long-term process? Is it one that is capital intensive or communication intensive? How can you use your answer to convince these industries?
2. (15 points) Some of the industries that oppose the implementation of green engineering claim that practicing green engineering requires a substantial organizational culture change. Some others claim that green engineering is a design process change. What would you say to these industries to help them understand the impact of green engineering on their culture or design practice?
3. (15 points) Is there a conflict in an environmentally conscious manufacturing environment? If there is, is it healthy and desirable? Does environmentally conscious manufacturing require management commitment and participation? In what capacity? What is the management role in this case?
