Part I: Read at least ONE of the following autoethnography personal narratives.

Go to pp. 123-136 (using the numbering on the top tab); this corresponds to pp. 111-124 if you refer to the numbers on the pages themselves, so don’t get confused about the double numbering system. There are six student examples. These are similar in length to the ones you will be writing for today and are also first draft pieces of writing. (Note that this textbook has a number of good student examples if you want more student examples of autoethnographic writing from first-year composition courses.) Choose at least ONE student example to read.

In about one paragraph, write a short response to the essay you read. What was most interesting to you about this author’s experience? While this is entirely written as a personal narrative, what larger sociological implications does this narrative have?

Part II: Write an autoethnographic personal narrative for your project. At this point, this should be just personal narrative with no secondary sources or other forms of research. Aim for at least 600 words. Write more if you have the time. This will be important work towards your final project, since a large part of your autoethnography will consist of personal narrative.
