Submission Instructions
This discussion has three major deadlines: Wednesday, Friday, and Sunday.
By Wednesday of this week, make a list of 4-6 acronyms or abbreviations from an area of interest. You could use terminology from the field you are completing the degree. (Students interested in computers could list computer terms, students in education could list education terms, if you are studying criminal justice, you can use criminal justice terms, etc.). You will be asked to list the acronyms and abbreviations without explanations or definitions in your first post. Do not include the field the terminology is used for.
Due by Friday, go to at least two of your classmates' lists and reply by trying to identify what the acronym or abbreviation stands for.
On Sunday, go back to your list and tell everyone the true meaning of the acronyms and abbreviations. It would be best to do this by defining the terms for a low-tech reader and explaining the terms for a lay reader. Did your classmates guess what they were? Were they mistaken? Did your classmates understand the high-tech language? At the end of this post, share what you have learned from this exercise.
Activity Two: Journal Entry
Journal Entry: Clear Communication
The first trait we discuss in this module is clarity. Specificity is what makes your communication clearer.
Your first activity for this week will be to reflect on the memo example provided and answer the following questions:
· Can the memo be clearer?
· What would you add?
· What information is missing?
This will be handed in as a Journal Entry. It is due on 11:59 pm ET on Sunday.
· Review the rubric to determine how your assignment will be graded.
· Your assignment will be run through TurnItIn to check for plagiarism. Please check your results, make any necessary corrections and resubmit a revised copy if the system identifies issues.
