In-Class Individual Writing Assignment

Listen to “Ice Man (Come on up)” and “In My Girlish Days” by Memphis Minnie.  In a paragraph or two, write about the lyrics in one, discussing how the song exemplifies the purpose of blues as a genre.  Terms to keep in mind:  haunting expressions, melancholy mood, grueling, outlet for depression, empty aftermath, passion, etc.  Use language gathered from the chapter in your response.
