Personal Action and Presentation: Since this is an Applied Ethics course, it is important that the ideas in the course are actually applied and do not remain merely theoretical. At the beginning of the semester each student will identify a project or activity to engage in (there are a variety of options). The student will then write a short paper (1-2 pages) explaining thestudent’s choice. Then over the course of the semester the student will actually do the activity or project. Near the end of the semester the student will reflect back on the project or activity in light of the course discussion and so forth. The student will then write a short reflection paper (3-5 pages) and give a short presentation to the class about the student’s “findings”. Optionswhich the student can choose include, but are not limited to:
- Volunteering/Community Service (at least 10 hours over the semester) with one organization of the student’s choosing
- 5-3-1 Practice (every day for 3 consecutive weeks)
