Initial Post:
Emotions are an important part of storytelling, and it can be the hardest thing to establish in a piece of writing. Writers who overdo emotion can risk becoming too sentimental and annoy the reader, and writers who fail to incorporate enough emotion in their work can leave the reader feeling empty. In the story by Diaz, the author explores the use of emotion and how it drives the main character and the decisions he makes. Discuss how Diaz does this effectively. How are the emotions displayed by the main character as much a part of who he is as it is detrimental to his overall well-being? In what way does emotion guide the story and support its purpose?
Using the story and the method of storytelling as a guide, what could you incorporate into your own work?
