Secondary Source Review  

Write a review analyzing a substantial article or a chapter in a book (not a “review” or “introduction” or “summary” article) on some important issue in either your field of study (your major) or your intended career. The article may come from either a print source or an electronic database. 

This review may become part of the course's biggest assignment, an annotated "webliography." 

In a short es.say of 300-400 words, do the following: 

Summarize the Article 

Who is the author? What is the title? What is his or her argument? How persuasively does he or she make that argument? What are the major points?  

Support your claims with evidence from the article. (That means quotes!) 

Analyze the Article 

Does the author make his or her argument effectively? Is the argument convincing or compelling? Why or why not? At what points is the article particularly effective? Ineffective? Why?  

Support your claims with evidence from the article. 

Synthesize Your Ideas 

What are your conclusions about what the author is attempting to do and how well he or she does it? Don't assume that your audience will draw the same conclusions from your analysis that you do; support those conclusions with evidence from the article.  

Use APA style (see the OWL website for guidance, 7th ed., student pa.per format), including a “Reference” listing and in-text citations throughout the es.say. 

Give your review a title that provides at least partial answers to both the "What?" and "So what?" questions that your readers will have. 

Please use active voice in every clause for the first sentence of each paragraph. 

Write one sentence that has both an independent and dependent clause; identify both kinds of clauses.
