Theory of Reasoned Action, Theory of Planned Behavior

For this Discussion, you will need to analyze a Scholarly Article  (Peer-reviewed) that applies the Theory of Reasoned Action (TRA) or the  Theory of Planned Behavior (TPD)(Remember the Theory of Planned Behavior  is different than the Theory of Reason Action by just one construct-perceived Control (Chapter  6), the Theory of Reasoned Action and Theory of Planned Behavior  considers culture in all components such as behavioral beliefs,  normative beliefs, control beliefs, subjective norms, motivation to  comply.  

1) Find an Article (Must be Scholarly/peer-reviewed).

We did this in class by using Google, a suggested search is starting  with the Theory and then adding a health issue.  A  reminder that  theories are not one-size-fits-all, for TRA and TPB focus on theoretical  constructs concerned with individual motivational factors as  determinants of the likelihood of performing specific behaviors.

The TRA and TPB explain a large proportion of the variance in  intention and predict a number of different health behaviors and  intentions, including smoking, alcohol and substance use, health  services utilization, exercise, sun protection, breastfeeding,  HIV/sexually transmitted disease (STD) prevention, contraceptive use,  mammography and other cancer screening, safety helmet use, nutritional  choices, donating blood, and seatbelt use. I suggest using one of these  health topics in your search.

2) Once you have found your article complete the following:

• Briefly discuss how the constructs of the Theory of planned behavior  are applied to explain the behavior. How does Culture play a role?
• Reflect on the value of applying behavior theory to understand health behavior and design interventions better.
