Q.2 Reply (OTI)(write a 250-300 reply to one peer in class). Make sure your replies are respectful and relevant to the topics covered in the textbook. One important idea from the video is that one conversation usually cannot fix a difficult work relationship. A talk or coffee meeting can be a good first step, but trust grows through small actions over time. For example, keep your promises, show kindness, ask real questions, and offer help without expecting something back right away.
Susan David describes two kinds of difficult work relationships. In an “over-competent” relationship, people are polite but don’t talk about much beyond everyday things. In an “over-challenged” relationship, people often argue or feel tense around each other. This shows that a relationship can have problems even if people aren't openly fighting.
David says to stop trying to prove who is right. Instead, think about what you want from the relationship and try to understand how the other person feels. She suggests imagining the other person already has an “I’m wrong” sticker on their back. In other words, you don’t have to prove they made a mistake before you can work toward a better relationship.
It can also help to meet somewhere neutral and find common ground. Maybe you share a goal at work or are facing the same challenge. Focusing on what you can do together can help you feel like you are on the same team instead of blaming each other.
My main takeaway is that fixing a relationship takes time and steady effort. Small, helpful actions each day can make a bigger difference than one big talk.
