As I was reading our chapters this morning, I noticed right away the authors speak of the importance of hand washing and other basic public health preventive measures. Every day I notice how many people are not wearing face masks despite, as some of you detailed in very interesting posts the impact of the virus. Earlier I was reading that hospitals in Florida, Texas, and Arizona were almost at capacity because of the number of cases surging (Gomez-Licon, 2020). Some areas of Florida and in Houston, Texas hit capacity and have no available ICU beds. Arizona hospitals were at 89 percent capacity while Gomez-Licon reports that half of the new cases in Arizona were in people under 44 years of age. The “hot spots” for COVID change but the numbers are trending up in most countries. It certainly makes us see the importance of public and community health in such important decisions. Many universities and school systems brought students back this fall. Some did not.

Do you think universities and schools should have students in the classroom this fall? Why or Why not?
