GENERALIST INTERVENTION MODEL

The population that i want to work with as a future social worker is the youth population in a clinical setting. A clinical social worker would be suited for this job but it can be done in hospitals, clinics, offices, etc. Clinical social workers may help work with clients to find the diagnosis, treatment and preventative methods for mental illnesses (NASW, 2023). Clinical social workers help clients in a time of need, when they may need additional support that they do not have. They can also help counsel these patients through divorce, family issues or maybe individual therapy (McDonald, 2023). In the TedTalk Anna Sheyett gives an example of when a family needs a clinical social worker, to help find resources for their premature child. Social workers can come out any time of someone's life, whenever they may be needed.

Working with this population I would use the ecological theory. This theory focuses on the interaction between individuals and their surrounding area, and allows social workers to assess how they may be affected by physical, social and cultural systems (Bolton, 2021). The approach assumes a person-in-environment focus (Kirst-Ashman, K. K., & Hull, G. H., Jr. (2018). Clinical social workers typically work with clients who struggle with mental health, so it would be beneficial to study the environment that they surround themselves in to see if it is causing any issues for them.

Doing extensive research on a population can help get more details and information to understand them better. Sampling is an important technique to collect information of a whole group in general. It is crucial to study the population that represents the entire population together. This can be beneficial to see any little details that may include size, sex, age, social status, etc. Continuing to research a population can help build my knowledge on that particular group.
