WHAT WOULD LIFE BE IN A TERNARY WORLD?

From an IT perspective we live in a binary world where for a variety of mathematical and technical reasons a "quantum" of digital information takes on either a "1" or "0" state.  But, what would the world be like if it were ternary and the quantum could be, say, either "+1", "0", or "-1" ?
