Answer ONE of the following questions:

1.  What roles did black politicians play during Reconstruction?  What factors limited their influence?

2. What did the Federal Government do to assist the Freedmen following the Civil War?  Were the actions of the government effective in aiding the Freedmen?  Explain why or why not.

3.  How did Southern whites to stop the advancement of African Americans  after the Civil War?  Were they effective?  Give examples to support your answer.
