The ability to communicate orally is an essential characteristic of an effective intelligence professional. As such, using your Intelligence Organization White summary, for this discussion you will deliver an oral briefing on the project. The oral briefing must summarize the significant components/findings of the white summary. It is imperative that students rehearse their oral briefing before recording to provide a professional briefing.
Instructions to create a Briefing Deck
Students will conduct the oral briefing through an audio-narrated Microsoft PowerPoint file. Make sure that you save your files as .pptx so that it is compatible with other presentation software. The length of the briefing is expected to be five (5) minutes (+/- one minute). As such, students will provide a concise overview of the key elements and findings of the white paper in a coherent, concise, and logical fashion.
The structure of the presentation will need to follow the outline below, As such, students are to use no more than seven slides or one slide per section for the content of their briefing.

Recommended steps:
1. Create a PowerPoint presentation with 7 slides. Do not copy and paste paragraphs of text from your summary to create your presentation. Use bullet points on the slides for key ideas, facts, and arguments you will make about your INTL organization in your briefing. If you use graphics in addition to bullet points, be sure you use public domain graphics only so you do not break US Copyright Laws, and attribute accordingly using CMOS 17 author-date formats. Yes, you can add a final page to the presentation deck for a References list if you use graphics. Don't forget to spell check!
2. Write out the "talk track" you plan to speak over the slides in the briefing deck. I recommend you plan what you want to say so it sounds natural and not like you're reading your summary. Practice is the key to a great briefing.

Introduction
The Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) is an integral part of the United States (US) Intelligence Community (IC) and plays a vital role in the protection of US security. This paper discusses the CIA in detail and includes a historical overview, essential moments in its evolution and contemporary issues, and a predicted period for the coming decade. The CIA has been one of the most integral members of the IC and has significantly affected U.S. intelligence initiatives. Although the World keeps changing to this date, the CIA will remain flexible by adjusting to changes to secure American safety and security.
Origin and Establishment
It is important to note that the origin of the CIA traces back to the aftermath of World War II; it first began as the National Intelligence Authority in 1946, which it was later renamed to the Central Intelligence Agency with the passage of the National Security Act, which took place its main objective was to create one central body that would gather information and thwart another kind of fiasco that happened to be called “Pearl Harbour" again.[footnoteRef:1]. It was supposed to be independent and impartial and provide an objective source of information to policymakers by linking disparate intelligence communities. The CIA was set up following the Second World War when there were changes in the international coalitions and new dangers emerged. It was created to have an organized, all-round, and unbiased informative institution that would feed the US government. The birth of the CIA is associated with the formation of the National Intelligence Authority in 1946 and its subsequent reconstruction under the National Security Act of 1947. The need for the CIA was established after recognizing that these intelligence failures ultimately led to the bombing of Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941[footnoteRef:2]. Finally, the American government admitted that it should have had an agency whose only job would be to offer the policymakers current, honest, and error-free data to reduce such failures next time. In particular, the National Security Act of 1947 was signed by President Harry S. Truman and led to the establishment of the contemporary system of intelligence services in the US. The enactment of the act not only formulated the existence of the Central Intelligence Agency but also revamped military personnel and created the NSC, whose responsibility was overseeing the defense programs within the country. Its role was to gather, study, and transmit intelligence, carrying out activities required by national security and aiding the President in the future. The establishment of the CIA embodied a post-World War II dream of a powerful, coordinated intelligence arm designed to confront the sophistication of developing Cold War complications.[footnoteRef:3]. The creation of the CIA stressed having an autonomous and impartial intelligence organization independent beyond the armed forces.[footnoteRef:5]. Since a country is affected by diverse threats, the CIA was required to be flexible enough to face emerging international threats, engage in secret missions, and ensure the U.S. retained a competitive edge in world affairs. Simply put, the CIA emerged from a need to provide better intelligence services based on historical failures and realizing that after World War II, the global political scenario was different, requiring a separate organization to ensure the safety of America. In a way, the creation of the CIA ensuredg that there would be US intelligence capacities at such a point in history. CIA's history has been marked by several significant instances that influenced the agency's development and influence in world politics. The CIA was established in 1947, where it led international intelligence operations, making adjustments to suit the changing global situation.[footnoteRef:6]. Among the earliest defining moments in the CIA's history is its contribution to the 1961 Bay of Pigs invasion. The Agency suffered a major blow in this ill-fated attempt to overthrow the Cuban government. This poorly conceived operation aimed at removing Fidel Castro's regime left America with an embarrassing image. Another crucial time that marked the history of the CIA was the Cuban missile crisis in 1962. The Agency provided invaluable information to then-president John F. Kennedy during their tense face-off with the Soviet Union. CIA discovered Soviet ballistic missile sites in Cuba using air surveillance, leading to a diplomatic crisis. Its effectiveness in intelligence and how it contributed to national security was demonstrated through how it managed the situation. During the Vietnam War, the CIA was instrumental in many covert operations as the country of the United States became more engaged. Therefore, the Agency provided support for anti-communists, engaged in paramilitary actions, and carried out their espionage missions within Southeast Asia. During the Vietnam War period, the CIA had a critical moment in its history that reflected what it did well and the ethical problems related to secret operations.
The CIA was under scrutiny internally and externally in the 1970s. Controversial activities, such as illegal domestic surveillance, as well as several unsuccessful attempts to kill different foreign leaders, were detected in the course of the Church Committee investigations. As a result, reforms were made to provide proper oversight and accountability in the intelligence community. The outcomes of that committee's investigation had profound consequences for the CIA as it reconsidered the practices that resulted in those events. The Agency was very crucial during the response to attacks, concentrating on counterterrorism and al Qaeda dissolution. Following 9/11, there was a reappraisal of the intelligence operations culminating in the establishment of the Department of Homeland Security and the reorganizing of the U.S. Intelligence Community. This has led to controversies among others after the 9/11 period, and some of them have revolved around increased interrogatory methods. Eventually, its history can be summarized with the critical points that have defined it as an intelligence agency of the United States. The agency has adapted to each era, having had several downs ranging from its origin and various defining points of the Cold War. The lessons learned from these events have contributed to the evolution of the CIA, emphasizing the importance of agility, ethical considerations, and a commitment to national security.
Current Issues
Multi-faceted challenges of today's landscape for the CIA. Emerging cybersecurity-related difficulties are attributable to technological advancement in the new information age.[footnoteRef:9]. The question of information leakages and breaches has shown the fine line between publicizing intelligence and maintaining secrecy on classified material. As with other issues, the increasing complexity of modern global conflicts also means that the CIA's strategies and capacities always need constant improvement.[footnoteRef:10]. The CIA also faces greater public scrutiny and increased demands for transparency after exposing its secret spying program and the tension it generates by interfering with people's right to privacy. Projected Future
Over the next ten years, the CIA will undergo dynamic transformation. The CIA as an agency is shaped in light of the evolving world dynamics, technology, and geopolitics as it strives to maintain a strategic position. Agents from a given country may include the following factors. Integrating new technologies in intelligence operations is an essential factor that will help shape the CIA's forecast for upcoming years. The CIA will likely rely on artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning to boost its analytical capacity. Enabling the agency to extract helpful information rapidly, identify the crucial pieces in a vast amount of data, and make more intelligent decisions. By investing in state-of-the-art technology, the CIA underscores the essence of remaining superior in the knowledge era.
However, the CIA's future undertakings shall remain keenly focused on cyber security. With advanced sophistication in digital threats and cyber assaults, the Agency must consistently reinforce its defense systems to protect classified information and ensure successful covert actions. The adaptability of the CIA to new cyber threats would play a key role in maintaining national security as adversaries seek to exploit inherent weaknesses within cyberspace systems. The cooperation and sharing of information with foreign intelligence organizations will be critical components of the next phase for the CIA. The capacity of the agency to facilitate partners in a global challenge is required. Threats ranging from terrorism and cyber warfare are related to each other, hence necessitating international collaboration. This should enhance, for example, the CIA's role in facilitating cooperation between international intelligence agencies, thus making them remain in their position as world leaders of the intelligence network.
In that regard, counterterrorism measures are still expected to dominate the activities of the CIA over the next decade. Therefore, the government should implement forward-driven and flexible countermeasures. It is likely that the Agency will improve its skills in tracking down extremist groups, dissuading radicalization, and aborting alleged assaults. Preventing and responding to global terrorism is crucial for the CIA in safeguarding the USA's national security interests.
Moreover, changes in the prevailing geopolitics and other new challenges will call for a nimble and flexible approach by the CIA. The Agency must continuously review and reorient itself to the evolving dynamics involving non-state actors, regional conflicts, and more complex issues that transcend conventional wisdom. The ability of the CIA to address future threats emanating from biotechnology, space, and autonomous weapons over the next ten years is critical. Therefore, ethics in intelligence collection will always be crucial focus areas for the CIA's tomorrow. It is challenging for the government to balance the national security issue against respect for people's human rights and ethics. Transparent practices and compliance with the law by the Agency in this regard are central to ensuring public confidence and legitimacy of its activities and decision-making.
It is expected that the CIA's workforce composition and skillsets needed in a fast-changing environment will change. Hiring specialists in the latest technologies, cyber-protection, and data analysis will be a priority of recruiters. Having a diverse and inclusive environment in the CIA will mean having a multidimensional and flexible workforce that can adapt to the intricacies of the future. The forthcoming situation of the CIA involves improving technology, cooperation at a global level, combating terrorism, ethics, etc. Innovation, adaptive capabilities, and strategic foresight at the agency level will determine how well it copes with the challenges of the coming decade. The path of the CIA remains the backbone of the US intelligence apparatus since it always serves national security.

The Central Intelligence Agency is still an essential component of the US intelligence community that has transformed over time. The history of the origins, vital occasions, and contemporary issues have also proved robust and adaptable in complicated international environments. This paper's thesis is that even today, the CIA remains relevant for shaping a secure future envisioned within an evolving technological landscape with collaborative efforts on the world stage. The CIA is vital in safeguarding security and stability in an ever-changing world.
