You have learned the intricacies of healthcare financing and growing

expenditures in the United States. Based on your readings and as reported by

NHE, you would agree that if the current spending levels continue, the U.S.

healthcare delivery system possesses a great danger to the U.S. economy.

Here is the million-dollar question: In your estimation, why does healthcare in

the U.S. account for such a huge chunk of the GDP in comparison to other

countries with comparable economies?

This week’s readings highlighted some drivers of healthcare expenditures and

their impact on the system as a whole. If we are able to identify reasons for

the exponential increase in healthcare expenditure, then how can it be

reduced?

Your assignment is to compare and contrast one country, whose healthcare

system you find interesting, to that of the US and discuss healthcare

expenditures for each. Consider the drivers of expenditures for each country

and list other significant features. Is the country of your choice spending as

much on healthcare? If not, what are the differences in spending and why?
