Databases in Cybersecurity
Dr. Brandon McIver's podcast "Up in the Air" is focused on the idea that data is a crucial asset in cybersecurity. The database is the backbone of any information management system, which has all those critical data, and the absence of it can bring any enterprise to a standstill. Still, they are security threats. Dr. McIver suggests database security measures such as access control, encryption, and segregation. Today, online threats are not limited to targeting users who only lose their data. Web security should be approached as an organization's top priority to avoid unauthorized data leakage and database hacking. This implies establishing security precautions to check and prohibit unauthorized users' access, data encryption in case of chance viewing, and firewalling of the databases from web-facing systems to prevent external attacks.
Dr. McIver underscores that the system of database security has to be taken into consideration. It includes the database management system, the operating system, network architecture, and underlying components. Adopting a systemic view of the database ecosystem and abiding by all security aspects at every level could reduce the risk of data leakage and boost the effectiveness of cyber security policies.
Vulnerability Management
Professor Brandon McIver continues in the podcast called "Storytime" with the subject of cybersecurity and delves into vulnerability management. Similarly, hackers can use gaps and weaknesses in software and systems to break into the security. Critical vulnerability management means discovering, assessing, and repairing vulnerabilities to protect a company from cyber threats.
The MITRE ATT&CK and Risk Management Framework are just the names of frameworks Dr McIver proposed useful for vulnerability management. These special models could be useful for a firm to detect the security gaps within its system and network methodologically. By adhering to current standards, businesses can ensure that their vulnerability management strategies work and are compliant. She stressed a proactive approach to vulnerability management compared to a reactive one. To do this, systems need to be monitored around the clock for vulnerabilities, ranked according to their seriousness and impact on risk and patched unpatched up as soon as possible to prevent exploitation. Moreover, as a preventive measure, businesses have implemented threat intelligence and industry-approved guidelines.
Among others, databases and vulnerability management are vital aspects that an organization's cybersecurity measures should consider to protect digital assets from cyber threats. Through data database security reinforcements and proactive vulnerability management techniques, organizations can make their cybersecurity conditions more reliable and decrease the risk of data breaches and cyber-attacks.

I was impressed by how you demonstrated the significance of frameworks in cybersecurity. In other words, you gave the audience an understanding that frameworks provide a methodological approach to solving security problems and are consistent with various organizations and industries. I was amazed that you explained that frameworks work as containers where knowledge and practices can move around smoothly, having fun. Overall, the paper shows that security frameworks are essential and critical in enhancing organizational security posture.

I was impressed by how you presented the database and vulnerability management issues in the cyber security paper you wrote. I'm afraid I disagree with your discussion on the security of databases, including access control and encryption, which are vital components of cybersecurity. On the other hand, you have a deeper and more comprehensive understanding of vulnerability management and emphasize the role of frameworks in reducing the risk of cyber-attacks. You highlighted the exceptionality of proactive vulnerability management approaches and the use of threat intelligence to outpace evolving risks, which was my favorite part. To summarize, the paper concentrates on the significant role of databases and technical vulnerabilities in cybersecurity. It offers valuable recommendations for organizations to improve the security of their computer systems.
