Logistics Software Update Old Dominion (OD) Freight Line Inc. is a regional and international logistics shipping company (Market Line Company Profile, p.1, 2025). OD operates in less than truckload (LTL) shipping which involves carrying various freight for multiple customers on one trailer. OD specializes in expedite shipping which guarantees one day over night deliveries. OD maintains an esteemed reputation of delivering freight securely and undamaged. The first step for selecting a project is identifying an area that could benefit from an improvement or revision (Gido, p.38, 2017). Identifying an improvement for OD would be to update the software systems. OD often experiences software crashes. Handheld devices freeze, and users are locked out of accounts until corporate HR teams can unlock and reset the systems. This causes delays in cut times making OD terminals incapable of delivering freight on time. Being unable to deliver freight on time creates distrust in OD’s capabilities which can cause customers to seek out other logistic companies. This not only damages customer loyalty but can further harm OD’s stockholder shares. Implementing software updates is a technological improvement opportunity that stands to benefit OD’s performance and customer relations (Gido, p.38, 2017). By improving software infrastructure OD can eliminate outdated software crashes. By having an improved software system OD can function unhindered from technological problems. Management has addressed this is a relevant issue. The two major challenges faced with implementing a new software project is establishing a budget and keeping OD online while these changes take effect.
