This is the beginning of your journey to becoming an effective speaker! Strong oral communication skills will be valuable to you throughout your academic journey. They are in high demand by many employers.

In this assignment, you will learn how to develop an effective speech outline. Creating an outline is critical to your success in crafting an effective speech. We will walk through the introduction, body, and conclusion step-by-step to help you prepare an outline.

Scenario

You have just received an email stating that you landed an interview for your dream job. The hiring manager asks you to prepare a 1-2 minute elevator pitch describing your professional background and experience for the potential employer during the job interview.

• Consider your education, work experience, skills, training, or value you would bring to the company. Why are you the best candidate for this job?

Preparation

1. You will use either the PlayPosit videoLinks to an external site. or the Sample Outline [DOCX] Download Sample Outline [DOCX]to create an outline of your elevator pitch. If you choose to use the PlayPosit, we will work together to walk through each section of the outline step-by-step. We will create an attention-grabbing introduction, a detailed body, and a memorable conclusion.
2. Once you are done with your assignment, submit the completed outline as a PDF or a Word document.

Reminder: If you quote, paraphrase, or summarize information from a published source, include an in-text citation and matching entry in a Source list at the end of your outline.

Requirements

Your activity will be graded according to the following criteria:

• Outline your topic completely to organize content and provide a solid flow for the speech.
• Develop an introduction that includes an attention grabber, purpose/topic statement, and a preview of the main points.
• Describe the main points and subpoints of the body of the speech.
• Develop a conclusion that includes a review of the main points, a summary of ideas, and memorable concluding remarks.
• Write with clarity, following spelling, grammar, and formatting requirements.
