How does  culture influence the process of  language learning? In your opinion, should culture and language be taught together? Why or why not? Consider how cultural understanding can shape a learner's approach to language acquisition, communication styles, and overall proficiency. Discuss the potential benefits and challenges of integrating cultural education into language instruction. 

Minimum 400 words reflection summary citing your analysis, reaction and/or feelings.  Reflections must be written using your own words and organized in essay form, must have proper grammar, and must reference information learned in the weekly readings.

Topic Overview- Meaningful Practice of Vocabulary

This week, we are learning about  Vocabulary, one of the five essential components of reading instruction.

· Vocabulary  is the knowledge of words and word meanings.  Vocabulary is acquired incidentally through indirect exposure to words and intentionally through explicit instruction in specific words and word-learning strategies.

Attached you will find a PowerPoint presentation that will assist you in completing this week's assignment.

· You must utilize the key concepts/ideas covered in the video, article and Flocabulary lesson to complete this week's assignment.

ASSIGNMENT

· Create three vocabulary stations with the requirements explained below.

· These vocabulary stations can be described in a Word document, PowerPoint presentation, Canva, or Google slide. 

1. Vocabulary Station #1:

Select one of the provided  vocabulary lesson models   provided in the  Teaching Reading Sourcebook  (pages 436-486): SENT SEPERATELY AS PDF

· Name the "Benchmark(s)" being taught.

· Explain step-by-step instructions on how you would use this vocabulary strategy with your students during this lesson.

Reflect on the vocabulary lesson model of choice :

· What are the benefits of this strategy when teaching vocabulary? 

· How can this be modified for your English Language Learners?

2. Vocabulary Station #2:

After viewing the  6 Steps to Vocabulary Instruction article and video, explain step-by-step instructions on how you would use each of these steps with your students during this lesson.

· Provide a description, explanation, or example of the new term.

· Ask students to restate the description, explanation, or example in their own words.

· Ask students to construct a picture, pictograph, or symbolic representation of the term.

· Engage students periodically in activities that help them add to their knowledge of the terms in their vocabulary notebook.

· Periodically ask students to discuss the terms with one another.

· Involve students periodically in games that enable them to play with terms.
