Green computing are attempts to use computing resources more efficiently to reduce environmental impacts, as well as the use of information system to reduce negative environmental impacts (Valacich & Schneider 2016). Because many organizations are being scrutinized for contributing to global warming, many are trying to portray a greener image when it comes to energy use and natural resources. This portrayal benefits organizations because "green" can be subsided by federal grants and rebates. Green computing can contribute to these efforts by helping to use computers more efficiently, doing the same with less. For example, organizations can save large amounts of money for power and cooling by using virtualization to replace hundreds of individuals servers with just a few powerful mainframe computers (Valacich & Schneider 2016). Green computing can certainly make a difference. For example, a Canadian company, Userful Corporation, have come up with a solution that turns 1 computer into 10 - DiscoverStation. Quickly becoming the standard for green computing worldwide, DiscoverStation leverages the unused computing power of modern PCs to create an environmentally efficient alternative to traditional desktop computing. Multiple users can work on a single computer by simply attaching up to 10 monitors, mice and keyboards. This makes it possible to reduce CO2 emissions by up to 15 tons per year per system and reduce electronic waste by up to 80%. Userful has recently stated that in the last year their software has saved over 13,250 tons of CO2 emissions, the equivalent of taking 2,300 cars off the road (Walker, 2007). Many ways of going green and reducing computer energy are: not using a screen saver, using ink printers instead of laser, and turning off the computer when not in use.
