Week 9: Assignment - CONCEPT WORKSHEET: The Persuasive Research Paper Proposal

1. What topic have you decided to write your research paper on, and why have you chosen this topic?

I decided to write my research paper on the importance of patient-centered communication in nursing. I chose this topic because communication is one of the most important parts of being a nurse. When nurses communicate well with their patients, it helps build trust, improves patient safety, and leads to better health outcomes. Since I plan to continue working in healthcare, I think this is a topic that is both meaningful and relevant to my future career.

2. What is your research question, and what do you think your research will reveal as a possible answer to this question?

My research question is: How does patient-centered communication affect patient outcomes and satisfaction in nursing care? I think my research will show that patients have better experiences and better health outcomes when nurses communicate clearly, listen carefully, and involve them in their care. I also expect to find that barriers such as busy workloads, limited time, and cultural or language differences can make communication more difficult. Overall, I believe effective communication is one of the key factors in providing high-quality nursing care.

3. What is one source that provides useful background information on your topic or research question, and how might you use it in your research paper? Provide a link.

One source that provides helpful background information is an article by Kwame and Petrucka (2021) published in BMC Nursing. The article explains why patient-centered communication is so important and discusses common barriers that nurses face, as well as ways to improve communication with patients. I plan to use this source to introduce my topic and support my discussion with research-based evidence throughout my paper.
