Verizon Communications Inc. is a global telecommunications leader known for using its platform not only to connect people through technology but also to advance social good. One example of Verizon’s social-change-focused marketing is its “All Our Thanks” campaign, which celebrated the diversity of frontline workers and their communities during the COVID-19 pandemic. The initiative highlighted Verizon’s commitment to inclusion by showcasing individuals from different racial, cultural, gender, and professional backgrounds who kept the world connected and cared for others during a crisis. Through television ads, social media videos, and digital storytelling, Verizon emphasized unity, gratitude, and the idea that connectivity transcends differences.
Impact of the Marketing Effort
The campaign strengthened Verizon’s brand image as an inclusive, socially responsible company. It built emotional resonance with a wide audience by promoting appreciation across diverse communities and occupations. The messaging reinforced Verizon’s corporate values of “humanity, respect, and inclusion”—values that align with its internal diversity and equity goals. In terms of business outcomes, the campaign helped increase consumer loyalty and positive brand perception, demonstrating that customers are more likely to support brands that align with their values. Verizon’s focus on community engagement also led to greater employee pride and stronger partnerships with organizations supporting diversity, such as the National Urban League and Human Rights Campaign.
Positive Social Change Impact
By promoting diversity and inclusion through its marketing, Verizon contributes to a culture of belonging and mutual respect. Campaigns like “All Our Thanks” and its ongoing #VerizonInnovateLearning initiative—which provides digital access and STEM education to underrepresented youth—serve as catalysts for positive social change. These efforts help bridge the digital divide, encourage representation in technology fields, and inspire other corporations to integrate social good into their marketing practices.
Ultimately, Verizon’s inclusive marketing illustrates how powerful storytelling and brand visibility can challenge stereotypes, celebrate cultural differences, and mobilize communities toward empathy and equality. When companies like Verizon use their influence for inclusion, they not only strengthen their market position but also model how business can be a force for unity and progress.

A good example of a marketing campaign that was focused on social change is the "Real Beauty" campaign by Dove, which is owned by Unilever. In addition, the campaign was focused on promoting diversity and inclusion by breaking down beauty standards, and featuring women of different shapes, sizes, ages, and ethnic backgrounds in their advertisements. By featuring real women instead of professional models, Dove was able to establish itself as a brand that is authentic and inclusive. Marketing campaign with a focus on television commercials, social media marketing, and interactive internet marketing was conducted to encourage women to take pride in their natural beauty (Gynn, 2020).
Dove's campaign had an impact on the company and on society. For Dove, the initiative was a way of building brand loyalty, consumer engagement and of differentiating themselves from their competition through their clearly defined commitment to social values. From a social perspective, the campaign had a great impact and made women realize how they look and accept them for what they are without being too self-conscious to fit in a certain mold. Dove, by showcasing a variety of models, extended the criteria of socially accepted beauty and created inclusive and broken destructive stereotypes (Zalis, 2019).
As campaigns like Dove one demonstrates, companies can utilize their platform to make a positive social impact and support their business at the same time. When you focus on the cause that matters to your target audience, you will be able to earn consumer trust, build goodwill, and drive brand advocacy. For instance, the fact that minority groups are being represented in Dove's advertisements not only helped advance the cause of diversity, but the action of other companies followed suit which increased the positive social impact. This shows that CSR marketing will easily work in business-profit and social welfare, and it is a powerful tool for business and societal growth (Adhikary, 2019).
