Visual Expressions in Society

I've posted the two images on which I would like you to write a compare/contrast response, the PPT is in the Exams/Projects folder in the Resources section. One of them you've seen already and we discussed in class (Masaccio's Trinity) and the other we haven't looked at together (Bosch's Garden of Earthly Delights).

To craft your response, I would like you to take 5-10 minutes to jot down your initial observations on how these paintings are similar or different without consulting outside sources. To get you thinking without background information: How do these paintings depict space and do they use specific techniques to do so? Where is the viewer positioned? How would you describe the environments in which these scenes are taking place? How does each painter depict the human body? What is represented in each painting? What do you think the function or use of each painting is? Is there a discernible message that the painting is communicating to the viewer? What is the medium or format of each painting? Your comments do not need to be limited to these prompts, they are just to get you thinking if you're at a loss!

After you've done this, you can consult your notes on Masaccio's painting and for the Bosch you can click around in this interactive feature (https://archief.ntr.nl/tuinderlusten/en.html) to gain a better sense of what this painting is about. To start, you might want to take the tour first but it's entirely up to you.
