• Scale- How big is the work-- a miniature painting or a mural on the side of a building?

Medium- What sort of materials are used--wire, rocks, black-and-white film, oil paint . . . ?

Subject- Can you identify any content in the creation; is it a picture of a lake, a small house, a statue of a president?

Design or arrangement- What is in the foreground and background? Are their groups of shapes, people, items that are part of the "message" of the piece? Is there a theme-a pattern of shapes or color family? 

Mood- What is the feeling you "get" from the work?
