The benefits of technology to humans are almost too numerous to list. As with anything, there are downsides to this advancement. Examine a misuse of technology that you have observed within the global community.

I believe the benefits to technology usually outweigh the downsides,  but there are still instances where problems would not occur if it were  not for technology. One recent example of this is the event that  happened at a protest with the kids from Covington, a school in  Kentucky. Video's surfaced of altercations between multiple groups who  were present at the protest, and many news outlets, primarily ones that  publish written articles online, published stories about what happened  before researching/speaking to anyone who was actually present at the  protest. People were sharing the video on social media, calling for the  kids to be expelled from their school, extra curricular activites, etc.  Because of the lack of investigation, the students were sent death  threats to their homes, the school had to shut down for safety concerns  and even some of the schools sponsors were contacted and threatened by  people all over the country. In the weeks that followed, additional  video footage and interviews from people who were present at the protest  shared a different side to the story that wasn't being published, and  we all learned that what was initially seen in the first video wasn't  exactly what was taking place.

I think the whole situation may have been avoided had it not been for  the internet/social media. If these two mediums did not exist, the  story would have to had played out through past journalistic practices -  research, interviews and then published in an article after the "dust  had settled". By the time that had happened, they may have been able to  get all of the information and could have avoided the frenzy that  occurred, simply because more time had passed, allowing for all of the  details to come to light.
