Use of Data in Nursing and Healthcare:

After completing the IHI tutorial QI 104, discuss the following:

How is data used or not used in your current practice area/organization?If data is used, how is data presented?  Is it helpful? Is it regularly discussed?  What is being done to make improvements?

If data is not used, identify one area in which data and charts can be used to illustrate a potential process improvement opportunity in your current practice area.

(NOTE: you cannot use any example such as ED wait times that were used in IHI lesson).

Minimum 300 words and 2 replies to peers with minimum 100 words for each post.  Two (2) references required to support your points. Replies should compare/contrast with your peer's post.

For example,"Stephanie, I would like for my unit to measure and share our fall rate; especially the fall rate with injury.  I work on a geriatric unit in a Boston hospital.  Just last week we had a resident fall and break her arm.  We were talking at break about the number of falls these last few months.  We do not have any regular data presented to us."

OR"Stephanie, we have a similar program looking at customer/client experience.  Monthly we are presented the patient satisfaction data.  We have small unit based committee that works to find ways to improve our scores.  Our goals is to have X by the end of the year.”
