Read the primary document 2.1, Diario of Christopher Columbus's First Voyage and pages 35-36 from Chapter 2 in The American Promise.  Answer the following:  

How does Columbus describe the Native Americans?  What are his ultimate goals and how does his view of them justify this?

Use the information in the textbook as context (or background) for the primary document.  Then read the primary document and critically analyze it by using the question in red.  Write a two page, double-spaced paper discussing the readings.
