 After reviewing the Dawes Act, the Indian Policy Reform by President Chester Arthur, and Selections from WITH THE NEZ PERCES, describe the problems and solutions identified by President Arthur with regards to the U.S. Government and the Native Americans. Does the Dawes Act address and solve the problems identified by President Arthur? Was the Dawes Act successful in protecting the Native Americans or did the legislation hurt the Native Americans? What revisions could have been made to the Dawes Act to make it increasingly effective?
