Role and Functions of Court Personnel
In Unit V, you learned about the roles of prosecuting and defense attorneys, and in this unit, you learned more about the roles of judges and juries. For this assignment, you will be putting all of this together and further examining the roles of these positions and other court personnel. Research the various positions, both full- and part-time, in a criminal court. Describe the functions of each, and then analyze how the various positions interface by supporting and arguing with each other. In your essay, be sure to include the following components:
- a description of how judges (for either state or federal trials—your choice) are selected, vetted, evaluated, and terminated for cause;
- a description of how jurors for criminal trials (either state or federal—your choice) are selected, instructed on the applicable law, monitored for ethical behavior, and removed from the jury;
- an analysis of how criminal defendants choose an attorney and how criminal defense attorneys are selected to be assigned to indigent defendants;
- a discussion of how prosecuting attorneys are selected, monitored for ethical behavior, and terminated; and
- an analysis of how these roles interact, support, and argue with each other.
Your essay must be at least two pages in length, and you must use at least two academic resources. Any information from these resources must be cited in APA style, and your paper must be formatted in accordance with APA guidelines.
