Part 2: Annotated Bibliography
Annotated bibliographies provide you with the opportunity to cite, summarize, and compare and contrast resources you will use in a project. You will cite each resource in APA style, write an approximately 150-word description that summarizes the central theme and scope of the resource, and compare and contrast it with other resources. For more information on annotated bibliographies, consult UMGC’s How to Write an Annotated Bibliography.
For this project, you are to identify at least 10 original sources of research from scholarly sources. At least 3-4 of your sources must have been published within the past 3 years. One annotated bibliography for each group is required..
Depending on the assignment, the annotated bibliography may serve a number of purposes, including but not limited to reviewing the literature on a particular subject, illustrating the quality of research you have done, providing examples of the types of resources available, describing other items on a topic that may be of interest to the reader, and/or exploring the subject for further research.
Annotated Bibliography, specifically the following critical elements must be addressed:
• Summarize the central theme of the resource.
• Include a paragraph in which you do the following:
o Evaluate the author’s authority or background.
o Explain how this resource will work in conjunction with other cited works to illuminate the topic of interest.

Group 2 ("The DV Crusaders) Project Proposal: Domestic Violence Awareness
Project Title: Empowering Communities against Domestic Violence
Creators: Shontavia Finks, Kaitlyn Cash, Farrin Conway, Dawn Jansson, Lisa Sharp
Our group is excited to propose the project "Empowering Communities against Domestic Violence," which centers on raising awareness about domestic violence and advocating for its victims within specific communities. Our initial focus will be on identifying and addressing elderly abuse, with a specific emphasis on financial abuse. This project aims to address the pressing issue of domestic violence through targeted initiatives within high-risk communities.
Demographic Information and Social Factors:
Age: Elderly individuals are often at higher risk due to factors like dependency on caregivers and potential isolation.
Gender: We will examine the gender breakdown within the community, as domestic violence can affect individuals of all genders. Identifying gender disparities can help tailor awareness campaigns.
Economic Status: Understanding the economic status of community members is crucial. Financial abuse can be exacerbated in communities with limited financial resources.
Cultural Background: Cultural factors can influence the dynamics of domestic violence. Awareness initiatives should be culturally sensitive and consider traditional norms and practices.
Social Support Networks: Examining the strength and availability of social support networks within the community is essential. Isolation can increase the risk for elderly victims.
Education Level: Education plays a role in awareness and empowerment. We will assess the level of education within the community to tailor educational materials accordingly.
Technology: Many elderly individuals have limited experience with internet based devices and online programs making them vulnerable for cybercrimes. Educating the elderly on internet safety is vital to keep their personal information protected online.
Specific Needs and Challenges for Elderly Victims:
Financial Literacy: Many elderly victims may lack financial literacy, making them vulnerable to financial abuse. Providing resources and education on financial management is essential.
Dependence on Caregivers: Elderly individuals often rely on caregivers for various needs. Ensuring the safety and well-being of elderly victims may require addressing issues related to caregiver relationships.
Isolation: Loneliness and isolation can increase the risk of abuse going unnoticed. Creating opportunities for socialization and support within the community is important.
Legal Protections: Understanding the legal rights and protections available to elderly victims is crucial. Many may not be aware of their rights or how to seek help.
Mental Health: Elderly victims may suffer from emotional and psychological trauma. Access to mental health services and support should be considered.
Awareness and Education: Tailoring awareness campaigns to address the specific vulnerabilities of elderly victims is essential. Materials should be easy to understand and accessible.
Family dynamics: Examining family and relationship status is crucial. Financial abuse can occur more often by family who may have been estranged or is being forced to care for elderly family members.
Our project, "Empowering Communities against Domestic Violence," will work to gather and analyze this demographic information and social factors within the chosen community to design effective awareness campaigns, support systems, and resources tailored
to the unique needs and challenges faced by elderly victims of domestic violence, with a focus on financial abuse. Through these targeted efforts, we aim to create a safer and more supportive environment for all community members. The best way to do this is to create a Poster to have a visual around most common surroundings.
Expected Outcomes:
Increased awareness of domestic violence issues within the target community.
Enhanced knowledge about the specific type of domestic violence addressed.
Increased access to resources and support for victims.
A tangible and impactful deliverable or event.
