Topic 1 DQ 2 Response to Josiah Mastriano

Humanity has a diverse set of worldviews: from atheistic, to polytheistic, to monotheistic. These differences in perspectives narrow even further into cultural diversity, which is something that should be celebrated as a clinical mental health counselor (GCU, 2025a). However, a student needs space to integrate their specific worldview and faith into a new field of study in a safe and efficient manner. The best environment for this integration is through an institution that reflects the beliefs of the student. For me, Grand Canyon University embodies this goal perfectly: between believing in the sinless life, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ (GCU 2025b), and how GCU "integrate[s] faith in [the] curriculum" (GCU 2025c). As a Christian, I'm called to spread the gospel message and make new followers of Jesus Christ. Yet as a future counselor, I have a specific set of ethics I must adhere to in how my faith is expressed in the counseling field. For me, seeing what faith looks like in the field from a Christian perspective on counseling will provide me invaluable lesson on the line between living out my faith and CMHC ethics.
