Welcome to the Week three problem-based learning scenario. You are a retail customer. Pick a
store you admire that is a “superstore,” national, or regional
chain. Visit the store and complete the tasks on the next page.
1. Pick a store you admire that is a “superstore,” national, or regional chain.
2. Visit the store. Look for items you normally purchase and see if any of the items are out of stock. If so, what are these types of products?
3. How much safety inventory do you think they keep on hand, on-site? If something you want is not “in stock,” how quickly can they get it? If they do not have it, where is it stored—that is, who maintains the costs associated with their safety inventory?
4. Complete the “Safety Inventory” Report and post your report in the Week 4 Discussion Board area.
For those of you who are deployed: 1. What types of items require safety
stock? What happens when you run out of stock?
2. What is the process for getting more supplies? Where do these supplies come from?
