Educators utilize technology in communications, research, and  sometimes in lesson design. Research supports the use of technology  with literacy.

Explore the use of technology in literacy instruction, then develop an original response to these questions:

· How do you (or would you) integrate technology with literacy instruction?

· What other tools do you need to successfully integrate technology?

Integrating multimedia and  interactive tools into reading instruction offers several significant  benefits, primarily focusing on improving student engagement and overall  reading abilities. Technology can support engagement and understanding.  Multimedia and interactive tools has become increasingly popular for  its ability to improve student engagement and understanding in  educational settings. These digital resources contribute to a more  dynamic learning environment, making the learning process more appealing  and effective for students (Nurhasanah & Firdaus, 2025; Sugiarto et al., 2025) .

Resources such as interactive apps, educational games, and e-books,  are effective in enhancing reading abilities across diverse learner  profiles (Nurhasanah & Firdaus, 2025;Sugiarto et al., 2025). This  indicates that technology can cater to various learning styles and  needs, thereby broadening its impact.

Specific advantages include improved motivation, better comprehension  of reading materials, and enhanced differentiation of instruction  (Nurhasanah & Firdaus, 2025). These benefits suggest that technology  can personalize the learning experience and make it more effective for  individual students.

The integration of technology into literacy education provides a  powerful approach to boost student engagement, deepen understanding, and  significantly improve reading abilities through increased motivation,  better comprehension, and tailored instruction.

Utilizing technology in  meaningful ways can help support aspects of a literacy rich classroom.  Recent research supports the positive impact of technology on literacy  learning. Dahl-Leonard et al. (2024) found that technology-delivered  literacy instruction significantly improved reading outcomes for  elementary students. One of the ways that I utilize technology in my  classroom is through engagement. The use of digital reading platforms  such as Epic help to elevate the classroom library. There are many books  available to students that I do not have physical copies of in my  classroom. I have also used google docs for collaborative writing  projects where students can work together on an assignment using the  same document. Assistive technology such as text-to-speech software has  helped support students with dyslexia in my classroom. I have used this  so that these students are able to access grade level content.

Technology can be useful in many ways. As a person who values  physical books and writing with a pencil/paper, I try to create balance  in my classroom. To successfully integrate technology in the classroom,  the teacher must have reliable internet connection. If the internet is  not reliable, teachers can be left scrambling to implement lessons using  technology-based resources. There are also needs to be enough devices  available in the classroom to use the technology available in an  equitable manner.

As technology continues to evolve, I think it is important to have  appropriate professional development and training for teachers. Often  times there are so many new programs and options that it can become  overwhelming to navigate them all. I have felt overwhelmed with this in  the past. To help with this, I try to focus on deepening my  understanding of one platform/program at a time and really familiarizing  myself with how to integrate it into my classroom. This helps me use it  effectively and also helps me to be able to properly support students  with their use of the program. In our district, we have a technology  teacher that will come in and help you properly integrate technology  into your classroom and lessons. She will even help model to the  students.
