Thermofluid system design: Jet Engine
1. The walls of a jet engine combustion chamber, which are 0.010 m thick with a thermal conductivity of 20 W/(m K), are cooled by air at a temperature of 1000 K on the cold side. The hot and cold-side wall temperatures are 1385 K and 1308 K, respectively. The hot-side walls are exposed to combustion products with a gas temperature of 2000 K. The combustion gas velocity near the walls is 100 m/s. Assume that thermal radiation is negligible.
a. What is the hot-side convective heat transfer coefficient?
b. What is the cold-side convection heat transfer coefficient?
c. If the combustion gas velocity inside the chamber is doubled to 200 m/s, how much does the hot-side wall surface temperature increase?
