Having read the stories of the patriarchs and matriarchs in Genesis and the stories of Moses in Exodus, we find narratives that drive Jewish worship and later Christian theology. Yet a close read of these texts demonstrate a lot of mythic characteristics.

Explain how these stories can be affirmed as mythic AND be useful to the Jewish sense of self  and later Christian theology.
