The Significance of the Frontier in American history

Historiography

Choose either Buffalo Soldiers, or Turner’s Frontier thesis to write about.

Read all the sources listed on the Resources page for your topic (and any other you can find. Answer the following questions in at least 300 words: What are the differing opinions historians have on the subject you chose?  What do you learn about the history of the American West from these controversies?  When there are conflicts like this in writings about history, how can a reader reach an opinion?  Be sure to quote at least two sources to support your answer. 

Write your historiography discussion on the corresponding topic.  You may search for other texts to help with your discussions, too, but, where possible, always be sure to use a mix of primary and secondary sources to support your points.
