The power of data in the stories we tell

 

In this week’s readings, we have looked at the use of data in healthcare decision-making. You will explore a data set and share your experiences with your classmates. Ensure you cite other’s work when appropriate and in APA format.

Visit the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) and Prevention Data and Statistics Links to an external site.page. Take a look at the kinds of statistics available to you in the CDC data set. Choose a health topic of interest to you.

• Formulate a research question of interest to you related to this topic. Next, look at what kinds of statistics are available to you in your chosen CDC data set that answer this question. Share your question with your classmates along with the data you found to answer your question.As you describe your process, talk about any additional question(s) that comes to mind after reviewing the data you’ve gathered. Do you have the data available to answer it? If not, what do you still need?
• Now, find an article related to your research question. This article can be from a journal Links to an external site.or a government resource like the CDC. Be sure it is no more than five years old and directly relevant to your question. Compare the findings in the article with what you were able to locate in the CDC data set. Did they support each other? In what way? Or, if not, what was the gap? (Note, this should be no more than a paragraph at most. Provide an APA reference for your source.)
