The Lower Digestive System
The digestive system is made up of two major components: the alimentary canal and the accessory organs.
Think about one food item you ate in your last meal. As your body digests that food, choose one organ involved in the process.
- Identify whether your chosen organ is part of the alimentary canal or an accessory organ, and explain why.
- Describe three anatomical features of this organ—these may be microscopic or macroscopic. Be sure to include any unique cells or tissues specific to this region.
- Finally, write two questions for your peers: one about an enzyme and one about a hormone that play important roles in digestion.
