How is this an example of the need for  solidarityLinks to an external site. and community in moving forward and keeping government accountable to serve its citizens? What are the demands asking for that addressing issues and challenges in the U.S.?

In January 2025, on the eve of the current administration's inauguration ceremony, various protests took place throughout the U.S.  demanding equity and social justiceLinks to an external site. . An example of such an event was in Chicago, where the  People's March for JusticeLinks to an external site.  - a coalition group of more than 60 organizations- came together to voice their concerns. According to activist Eric Ramos, the coalition's shared agenda was mainly focused on anti-immigrant policies and the antiwar movement. 

Listed below are the coalition's demands: 

· Our people deserve good jobs and an economy that honors our dignity  and ensures we have access to quality food, transportation, recreation, and all the things we need to survive and thrive.

· Our people deserve quality and affordable housing  within our communities that allows us to maintain the bonds essential to our collective survival.

· Our people deserve access to quality and affordable healthcare  in their communities – without restriction – that honors our right to make decisions about our own bodies, our families, and lives.

· Our people deserve to know that our resources are not funding or supporting political violence or war,  and that we are safe in our homes and communities, no matter who we are or where we live in the world.

· Our people deserve access to quality, robust, and free education  that accurately reflects both history and the lived experiences of our communities.

· Our people deserve a thriving democracy  with access to all the components that keep it healthy, including secure elections, the right to vote and to protest, and freedom of speech and the media.

· Our people deserve the freedom to move , whether in search of safety, quality of life, or simply to be with our loved ones without stigma or the threat of detainment, imprisonment, or violence.

· Our people deserve a healthy environment  - our air, water, and earth free from pollutants - and a comprehensive response to the climate crisis that protects this planet for future generations.
