Based on what you have learned about developing an effective thesis statement and writing a well-organized five-paragraph essay, analyze the sample  composition below.

Read the composition carefully  for understanding,  and then write 5-7 sentences in response to each of the following questions.

  1. In general, is this a well-written essay? Why or why not? Are there punctuation and grammatical errors? If so, list some examples.
  2. What is the thesis? Is the thesis statement grammatically correct? Does it clearly state the points to be discussed? In general, is the thesis effective? If so, why? If not, why not? How would you improve the thesis to correct any errors? 
  3. Are the paragraphs fully developed? Why or why not?  Be specific in your explanation.
