The data below are lab report scores for a group of science students in a University chemistry class. They performed two different experiments on two different days. We will perform a two-sample hypothesis test on this data. To do this, you must enter the data in both columns into an Excel spreadsheet that you have previously installed Megastat as add-in. Lab 1 Lab 2 15 13.95 15 13.5 14.3 9 14.3 14.3 14.7 14.4 13.5 15 14.3 14.3 14.9 14.3 14.3 13.7 15 14.3 15 14.9 15 14.4 15 14.85 12.5 15 14.7 14.7 15 12.75 15 14.25 12.75 13.5 14.25 13.5 14.25 13.5 14.4 13.25
From Megastat perform a hypothesis test (by selecting hypothesis test) then comparison of two independent groups. Make sure data input is checked. Place the cursor inside Group 1, then go to the data and scroll from top to bottom for Lab 1 results including the heading. Next, place the cursor inside Group 2 and go to the data and scroll from top to bottom of Lab 2 results including the heading. The hypothesized difference must be zero, and for alternative, select greater than. Check z-test. Then click OK. Based on the output, can we conclude at the 5% level of significance that the students performed better on one experiment than the other? Explain the difference between one-sample hypothesis and two-sample hypothesis testing. In this exercise how did you formulate the null and alternate hypothesis? What is the importance of rejecting the null hypothesis in relation to a two-sample hypothesis test?
