You are to write a 4-5 page paper (1,500 words minimum) explaining Why street gangs are a major social problem in the United States by the ending date of the last module. Feel free to begin the paper at any time during the course. The paper must contain at least four (4) academic references (any combination of 4 academic books and journal articles) on the general topic of "social problems" and most specifically on how street gangs can be considered a social problem. The paper must meet the required ASA writing style. (Note: See the Grading Rubric for an explanation as to how your paper will be graded.)

the paper is accurate, original, and relevant, teaches us something new of academic value, provides sociological analysis, is well written, contains a minimum of 1,500 words, and includes at least 4 properly cited academic references (books and journal articles other than assigned materials). A bibliography must be included at the end of your paper. You are to describe how street gang activity can be described as a "social problem." You can chose a general social problem such as their negative impact on the quality of life for those who live in gang neighborhoods or write about something specific such as specific crimes that they commit (e.g., drug trafficking, murder, robbery).
