This chapter discusses the importance of three key skills: administrative skills, interpersonal skills and conceptual skills. Please read the case study at the end of the chapter entitled, "Give Me Shelter." (Page 114) Once you have read the case study, read and respond to these questions. 

Case Study Questions

  1. First explain how administrative skills are important for leadership, how interpersonal skills are important for leadership, and how conceptual skills are important for leadership. Why do you think the author considers these to be core leadership skills?
  2. Based on the Model of Primary Leadership Skill (Figure 5.1), how would you describe Theo's skills? In what skills is he the strongest, and in what skills is he the weakest? 
  3. What skills did Theo exhibit that made Linda think he would be a good operations manager the first time? What skills did he learn and develop that led her to think he would be a good CEO?
  4. How do you think Theo's emotional intelligence developed during his career?
