- 1.5 pages double space
- should provide an overview of the author’s main concerns
- context regarding when the piece was written, by whom, and for whom
- And how these connect to other readings, topics, or musics
- Do Not use passive verbs (i.e., “is,” “was,” etc.) whenever possible. Instead, deploy active verbs to craft clear, energetic statements.
Do Not use split infinitives, such as “to quickly run . . .” Instead, go with “to run quickly”
Do Not use generalizations and sweeping statements, like “everyone loves xxx plz Provide evidence when making strong claims.
Do Not use “really,” “a lot,” “totally,” “awesome,” “incredible,” “unbelievable,” and other vague or hyperbolic terms. Provide specific information whenever possible.
