Stress Management in the Workplace
No matter how hard we try, we will never remove stress from the workplace. Why? Because we are all human and we are all different. Diversity has valuable benefits for organizations; likewise, diversity can present pronounced challenges. Discrimination and stereotyping are among the possibilities. By way of example, generational diversity has been one of the most interesting challenges because each generation brings a unique set of gifts and characteristics to the workplace. The key is to encourage each generation to allow those talents and gifts to complement the other generations.
Clearly, change is a factor influencing stress in the workplace. If change is embraced, communicated, and integrated strategically, change can create healthy stress. Otherwise, change can become a distressing event. Since stress will most likely be a part of organizational life, formal techniques for stress management control are vital for both individual and organizational life.
Based on your readings this week, how can organizations address change management in the workplace such that healthy stress is created? Be creative in your answer!
