Stem Family Projected
STEM may be a newer concept for some families because their understanding of school is often related to their school experiences. In working to build the home-school connection, early childhood educators must continue to provide families with insight into the curriculum and expectations for learning.
Select one grade level K-3. Identify a science standard, math standard, and technology standard that has not been used in other topics. Create an engaging, at-home project for families to utilize STEM. The project should be an activity that families can easily implement at home.
Create a 1–2-page digital flyer for families that includes the following:
A family-friendly description of STEM.
Introduction to the project that includes a family-friendly explanation of the science, math, and technology standards being used.
Directions for completing the family project.
At least two local community resources that support STEM education and a description of each.
At least two additional online collaborative tools to expand the student’s authentic, real-world learning experiences by engaging virtually with experts, teams, or students, locally and/or globally.
Explanation of how the project reinforces real-world connections.
The flyer should include graphics that are relevant to the content, visually appealing, and use space appropriately.
Support your flyer with 2-3 resources.
